The Kpanlogo drum must be the most well known west African peg drum, smaller than the conga but of similar shape and sound. Antelope skin is used for its head producing a soft and resonant tone, played with the hands.
The Dance
Kpanlogo is a dance and drumming rhythm originating from the Ga tribe, around
the capital city of Ghana, Accra. It became popular in the wake of Ghanas
independence in the 1950s, a time of new life and freedom. Kpanlogo
is a dance of the youth played for recreation and enjoyment.
